Veteran Center Re-Ups with Championship Contender
Extension Includes $19.5 Million Guaranteed, $9.75 Million Average Annual Salary
In a move that solidifies their championship aspirations, the Boston Celtics have agreed to a two-year, $19.5 million contract extension with veteran center Al Horford. The deal, which was first reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, includes $19.5 million guaranteed and an average annual salary of $9.75 million.
Horford, a five-time All-Star and three-time NBA champion, has been a key contributor for the Celtics since joining the team in 2016. In the 2022-23 season, the 36-year-old averaged 11.9 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 56.3% from the field.
The extension keeps Horford in Boston through his 39th birthday, further bolstering the team's frontcourt rotation alongside All-Stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. With Horford's leadership and experience, the Celtics aim to continue their pursuit of an NBA championship in the years to come.
